100 yen store

Last night was had a short break in between our sessions and the reception that was held in our honor. We don’t get a lot of free time, so we were very excited. We decided to take the hour and fifteen minutes to make our way to the 100 yen store, which is the Japanese equivalent to a dollar store. The walk took us there the “Times Square” of Tokyo, which was an adventure in its self (none of us knew that we have been so close to the heart of Tokyo, we have been in lectures so much).

The walk was about 20 minutes, plus eight floors of escalators to get to the part of the store that was for 100 yen only. However, it was worth it.

The 100 yen store was amazing! You could not imagine the things that you can get for so little-particularly when you consider how ridiculously expensive Tokyo can be. There were all different kinds of chopsticks, little ceramic bowls, bath salts, chap stick, paper, candy, and more! It was very exciting and we all bought too much junk because of it. On thing, though, we ended up in one of the neighborhoods that we are not supposed to go to, especially after dark, but we did not realize that we had crossed the tracks (figuratively and literally) until we were on our way back.
