Weaving

On Thanksgiving Day we toured many areas on the island. This included a short stop at the Reiko Shinzato Textile Studio, where they still weave the traditional cloth of Miyakojima. The thread for this cloth takes 6 months to produce a spool. We were allowed to try on a robe made of this material, only to find out that it costs 1,000,000 yen to purchase from the weaving and 3,000,000 yen to purchase from a store. This means that I got to wear a robe that would cost as much as $30,000!
